Howdy folks!
newbie here who has mostly done blankets and toques.
looking for garment yarn (adult and toddler sweaters mostly) recommendations. Nice drape, something soft and not scratchy and machine washable. And, easily available in Canada:) Either online or in store. Like Michaels or yarncanada.
Some of the reading I’ve been doing, plenty are suggesting a 3 yarn.
I appreciate any insight from you knowledgeable crocheters!

For nice drape, softness, and no scratch, you might try Premier Yarns "Cotton Fair".  It is #2 weight and about 50/50 Cotton and Acrylic.  Machine washable.  I  don't know for sure if Michaels in Canada carries the entire range of colours, but maybe I am wrong.

I have ordered this yarn from yarncanada, but I'd just as soon order from the USA as my orders get here just as fast and there's more colour choice.

Hope you  find what you are looking for.  For garments especially,  I do love Cotton Fair.  I'm always hunting for excuses to crochet something, anything, with this yarn, as it feels so lovely in my hands.

"Swish is the superwash of knitters’ dreams! By selecting high grade Merino wool (20.5 microns), we have been able to produce a machine washable yarn that is super soft - definitely worthy of being worn against a baby's skin. Just the ticket for children’s clothes, ..."
"Swish is also available in Worsted and Bulky weights.

Note: For best machine wash results, turn the garment inside out (when possible), and wash separately in cold water on a delicate cycle. You may want to wash projects made from darker colors by themselves for the first few washes in case the yarn bleeds a bit."

Depends on the pattern, gauge, design as far as drape.  I've used fingering to worsted yarns.

I've made made play toddler sweaters with acrylic yarn as well as a man-sized.  Dress sweaters with Swish and Encore. Comfy for a vest.

Happened across this article and thought it might help in your understanding in choosing yarns as wearables.  Written with knitters in mind but applies with crochet.  https://yarnsub.com/articles/how-to-substitute
