Frustrated!

I have become so confused with the new sizes for thread hooks.  I always thought a 1.65 mm was a 7 but that is not always the case.  As I have found that a 1.5 mm hook is a 7.I recently bought a bamboo handle set of crochet hooks and it has a size 2.5 but I have no idea what this size is.  Can anyone help me with this?!  Thanks

I understand the confusion.  I had a set of Bates Bamboo thread hooks that had the old number & matching mm measurements on them and when I misplaced them I had to start replacing them with new ones last year.  It was a whole new learning process.

What someone reminded me is that for most projects the .5mm are not a huge difference.  For instance I was making a doll dress the suggested hook translated to 1.7mm which of course I don't have so I used a 1.75 and the fit was fine.
