Is this really crochet? New Marni collection

sed_paz

Question

Hello!

I was looking through Marni's new collection of knitwear for inspo and came across this sweater-shirt (picture attached below) that is labeled as crochet, but it looks knit to me. Any guesses as to the stitch? I'd love to recreate it ! Also--why would they use a stitch that replicates knitting--is it easier or something? Thanks for the help!!

Yep, that's knit; stockinette for the body and (looks like) knit 1, purl 2 ribbing.

If you found a top pattern in plain SC that is designed using sport weight yarn, and you know how to do colorwork, you could get close using SC.  I agree that the  waistcoat stitch looks cool (have played with it but not made a whole project), but it is IMO rather thick for a wearable (maybe a hat...).

Or, there is a technique called knooking where you use a crochet hook with a 'tail' (string) attached at the end, and actually make real knits and purls with a crochet hook - knit and purl stitches are basically a crochet slip-stitch with more rules.
