Crochet for baby

Recommended Posts

Well I’m very excited to be greeting my first grandchild in February.  I have been asked to make some loveys for the baby. I’d like to know your opinions of the best yarns to use and why. I’d love for it to be as soft as possible but I worry about small threads or fibres coming off should the little one put it in  his or her mouth. Any suggestions?

I would probably look for one sold as baby yarn. They come in a variety of weights. I like to use acrylic because of the ease in washing/drying something that likely will be used often and get dirty. There are so many brands and yarn choices in each brand. I've used baby yarn from Bernat, Lion Brand and Mary Maxim.

For loveys that will most likely be mouthed, sucked on I would consider organic cotton.  Personally, I have used acrylics and worsted cottons. (my grandkids had no ill effects 🙂) I noticed they now have many yarns rated oeko-tex, tested for harmful substances.  ie red heart super saver and others  Get tightly woven yarn.
