Question

Hello,

I have been attempting to understand the instructions for the first row.

When I complete the row I still have about 3-4 chains left. It also states the beginning and end should have 6 double crochets, but my count comes to 5 dc in the beginning.

can anyone explain what I’m doing wrong?

Ch 84.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook (3 skipped ch count as dc), dc in next 4 ch, *ch 2, sk next 2 ch, dc in next 15
ch; rep from * to last 8 ch, ch 2, sk next 2 ch, dc in last 6 ch – you will have four 15-dc groups, 5 ch-2 sps,
and a 6-dc group at beg and end of this row.

Dc in 4th ch from hook (3 skipped ch count as dc), dc in next 4 ch,  the dc in 4th ch from hook plus the 3 ch you   skipped counts as 2 dc.  Add that to dc in next 4ch would equal 6 dc.

you will have four 15-dc groups, 5 ch-2 sps,
and a 6-dc group at beg and end of this row.  this is your stitch count so does it match what you have?  If so you should be okay.  You will know its ok if the next row works out ok.  I invariably loose count when counting chains so now I always chain extra, use what I need and then undo the unused chains.

4 15 dc groups use 60 ch

5 ch 2 spaces use 10 ch

6dc at end use 6 ch

Dc in 4th ch from hook uses 4 ch

Dc in next 4 ch uses 4 ch

84 ch used
