I can't figure out this row in a beanie pattern!

Stefferu

Question

this is row 8;

(2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 17dc) 0 (4)
times, 1dc in each of next 75 (3) dc, 1hdc in each of next 2dc,
1sc in each of next 2dc, sl st in next dc … 80 (84) sts.
Rem of Beanie is worked in joined rounds

I'm stumped!! This is the ridge beanie on the yarnspirations website. There's only 80 stitches to work in! Am I missing something? 🤔

This is where you decide if you are making it medium or large.

Medium

1dc in each of next 75

dc, 1hdc in each of next 2dc,
1sc in each of next 2dc, sl st in next dc

80 stitches total

Large

(2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 17dc) 4 times

3dc, 1hdc in each of next 2dc,
1sc in each of next 2dc, sl st in next dc  84 stitches total

This pattern is unconventional, I have never seen this on a pattern company website before.  Normally at the beginning of a multi sized pattern it will say something like 'directions given for medium, directions for large in parentheses', and then you'll see (example) "make 2(3) DC in the next stitch", where the 2 applies to medium and (3) to large.

IMO it is inexcusable for the pattern not to have explained their unusual format.  I would cut them a tiny bit of slack if on page 1, the medium info was bolded (and the large not)  in the measurement & yarn needed area, but still..
