:birthday CShort

It's the middle of October and I'm still wearing shorts.  Weird weather pattern.  I was really hoping for some fall weather before the snow.

Mary Jo congrats on both teams winning.

Rain rain and more rain. Saw gators and flamingoes marching two by two past the house today......

This was Halloween at JC Wyatt house in St Joseph MO.  People made reservations tonight for next year.

Yes, the yarn tossing was horrible.... Chris said he felt like he needed to go home and take all the sharp objects out of the house🤣

Happy Birthday Carol.

It feels more like fall today but still  wearing shorts.  I grabbed a very light weight jacket when we went to and Aging in Place event and lunch.  Sprinkled on us when helping pack friend's car.  She was going to leave this morning but was still here when we were coming back from lunch.  One dog headed to MN.  At the event we grabbed a sheet listing all the things Village Helpers will do and their price sheet.  Dh looked at the pet help section and said they get money he just gets a bag of poop.

good afternoon

are village helpers different than  resident helpers ? I can still hear people saying You don't get paid to volunteer? they actually said that they thought I was crazy to it just out of the goodness of my heart, hey different strokes for different folks

I think its probably the same sort of thing. I was amazed at all they would do---write letters, wrap packages, grocery shopping, run errands, cook, play games, listen, transport you, laundry,  etc.  There is an hourly fee for reg hours, off hours, and holiday. Good thing is if we should need it since we did an entrance fee we would get 50 % off.  Like dh said they get money for walking dogs all he gets is a bag of poop.  He just came back and was excited Millie did her job next to the poop deposit place.  Then said what does that say when you are excited about that.  They are asking for volunteers at the care center, greeter and tell people how to navigate around it, people to escort (push wheelchair) residents to salon, go with residents to dr visits (again push wheelchair not to drive them) and someone to play chess with.  Dh would like to play chess but says he doesnt play well and with his schedule didnt know when he could play

Got a call this morning wanting to know when I was going to walk Thunder.  Told her dh was at dulcimer.  She said thought I was fill in.  I said I think Thunder is too far away.  She was being onery because she knew Millie rejected me the other day when I tried to fill in for dh.  They had made it to their layover last night ok and was calling to let us know and thanking us for helping.

7pm.  House phone rings.  Dont recognize caller initial and last name.  Answered. No one there.  Dh in shower.  I asked him whats Lois last name?  After his response I told him she might have called on house phone.  He called back.  She wanted to know if its going to storm tonight.

Rainy here today,  loved it. We kept the door open most of the day. I sat and crocheted most of the day, working on a candy corn cat from a Halloween book from Annies...

Sandra, come take over my farm... I am so done with the chickens , goats, and the groundhogs eating the garden...  I am thinking a townhome in the city right now...LOL

My glasses are always so expensive when I get them, I might need to try costco, I have transitional lenses and I don't give a hoot if they are designer frames or not... 3 years ago they cost me 675. and my next appt is  Nov.... I also have mild cataracts.... wonder how those have grown.

Oh Lea that would be a dream come true. I am so ready to have chickens, a couple cows and some pigs. LOL

Nice cool day here today, headed out to the pumpkin patch with a few of the grands.

Thank you FG for the Halloween card!

MJ, now that John has his new pacemaker with blue tooth, can you play music on him 🤣🤣

I am going down the Christmas list deciding who is crochet worthy and who isn't.... the list gets shorter every year.

Finally looks like fall weather all week.  Finally have long pants on!!!

As for the hand made gift stuff as long as people aren't jerks about telling me they don't like hand made stuff I'd actually rather know than waste time making stuff. What annoys me is when they ask for something and then never use it or think they are doing me a favor by giving me a project to keep me busy and didn't really want it kind of thing.

I'm not a hypocrite about it I don't wear much in the way of yarn clothing with the exception of an occasional shawl.  I prefer fleece hats, scarves, and gloves. I was thrilled when I finally got my Mom to stop making me sweaters.  I never wear them and it is a huge investment of time and money on her part for a project that makes my skin itch.

I'm always confused by the posts (on another site) my husband/boyfriend doesn't like crocheted/knitted items what can I make him for instance.  I'm usually the person asking why are you giving him a gift he isn't going to like while other people post 10 items you know the guy is going to hate and the girl will be mad if he doesn't gush all over the gift you knew going in he wasn't going to like.

I was always raised to smile and say thank you when you receive a gift.  I say this because I always try to treat gifts and givers with respect.  However,  I have received some weird stuff over the years both hand made and purchased primarily from family and wondered why?  Do you remember who I am at all?  You could clearly tell they made/bought presents for themselves and assumed everyone else would of course love them.  This likely has guided my perspective on the hand made gift thinking.  I do get caught up in oh isn't this lovely but I have to step back and ask myself who am I making/buying this for and will they find it lovely too?

As warm as it has been this fall I am worried about the winter because the chipmunks and the squirrels are having it out over collecting nuts.  I've never seen them gathering like this before.  They were up in one tree literally cutting branches to harvest.  I heard stuff crashing off neighbor's shed and couldn't believe it.  It was like watching a harvesting crew go through the trees.

Happy Anniversary, Owlvamp! Hope you've had a good day.

We're having nights in the mid 40's but it's going to get a little warmer later in the week. But still fall is definitely here and being enjoyed!

I had to return some light bulbs and combined the trip to get a new artificial Christmas tree. The not that old one is too heavy for me to handle and hard to store. Then we had an incident with Cookie ripping into the box and chewing on wires. They were mended but the lights acted weird part of the time. So perfect excuse to get a new lighter slim one. I managed to get the box from the car into the house by myself, so that's a good sign. LOL

Also got the ingredients for the punch I make for Christmas Eve. It's an old recipe that calls for the big cans of pineapple and orange juice that are hard to find now. With all the talk of continuing supply chain issues, I'm trying to make sure I have holiday cooking ingredients and presents earlier than usual.

Productive day overall. I need to work on the house clutter tomorrow and I have the grands Wednesday morning.

Sandra hope you and hubby had a nice day.

Chris after finally getting a fleece scarf never going back to crocheted or knit ones.  You thoughts were spot on with my thoughts on the crocheted gifts.

Mona sounds like you had a super productive day.  I bought a slim tree years ago and love it.  Its tall yet takes up a lot less floor space.
