Question

Hi. I just finished a crochet scarf using Bernat Crushed Velvet yarn. The pattern suggested adding fringe so I did. But when I cut the strips for the fringe I noticed white threads sticking out of each strip of yarn. What are these and what do I need to do to get rid of them? Thanks. K

Did the pattern call out using that particular yarn?

Not an expert nor a fan of novelty yarns;  I would think chenille yarn is just short bits of fluff held together by a thread....a little googling verifies that--"Chenille is made by placing short lengths of yarn between two “core yarns” and then twisting the yarn together. The wrapped yarns are cut to produce a pile effect."  So if you try to get rid of the threads (core yarns) holding the short fluffs of yarn together, you'll have a pile of...yarn dust, more or less.
