Afghan suggestions

I want to make a pretty, but easy afghan for a friend to surprise her with. I got pink and gray I love this yarn and at first I was going to crochenit, but now I think I would rather make one crochet, holding 2 strands together. The only thing I really don't want to do is chevron.

Any suggestions?

You didn't mention a color scheme but, I think this pattern is pretty and would look nice in even just one color.
