Christmas Sweaters For Chickens- What???

I think I saw something years ago about sweaters for chickens because sometimes they pick their feathers out, can't remember what caused that to happen (googling...)  apparently sometimes it's due to chicken bullies picking out feathers of their coop mates (I guess pecking order is really a thing), or could be pulling their own feathers out to eat them because they aren't getting enough protein.

Pecking order really is a thing! When I was a kid we had a ranch and one day my dad decided to go into the chicken business and bought 1,000 chicks. To see them grow so quickly and begin laying was amazing. The hens are like Alpha dogs. Some are more important than others in their hierarchy. They can be so mean, but boy when those roosters laid down the law, the hens listened. There are several reasons for loosing/pulling feathers, bully pecking, brooding to make a soft nest for eggs, stress, mites, I could go on and on. All in all, maybe the crochet sweaters aren't such a bad idea after all.
