You are crocheting a circle starting with 6 single crochet in a magic circle.

2. Two sc in each stitch for a total of 12 sc

3. 1sc in first stitch, 2 sc in second stitch, 1 sc in 3rd stitch, 2 sc in 4th stitch ...... until you have 18 sc in round 3 (increase of 6 stitches)

4. [Sc, 2sc, sc] around until you have 24 total stitches (increase of 6)

5. [Sc , sc, sc, 2sc] around until you have a total of 30 (increase of 6)

6 [sc, sc,  2sc, sc, sc]  around for a total of 36 stitches (increase of 6)

Rounds 7-17  you will sc around 36 stitches for each round. (No additional stitches )

What she said.  The (x)  number at the end of the row/round confuses a lot of new crocheters, it is not telling you to do something it is just a sanity check summation of the # of stitches you should have at the end so you can make sure you are on track; sometimes for a complex stitch pattern it might say (x DC, y chain spaces, z SC) for example.
