Crochet pattern help please!

Rachel1994

Question

Hi, so I have done a pineapple granny square. Quite new to crochet and it’s meant to be a 3d square… So the last bit I have to do is some edging on the pineapple.

The pattern says round 8: join colour in any front loop stitch. Ch (sc, ch) in each stitch of this round.

So….. My question is…. I have joined my yarn in one of the stitches. Do I chain 1 in that front loop and move onto the next front loop and everyone thereafter doing sc, ch1? Is it actually asking me to chain 1 at all or have I misunderstood? Thanks

Welcome to the ville!  I would read that as the ch before the parentheses is the one-time turning chain for the new round, and the part to repeat is (sc, ch) in each stitch.

Parentheses have a place in conventional crochet pattern 'grammar' having to do with repeats, as in "(do all this stuff) in the spot(s) I say to do it in."  So that's another clue that the first ch isn't in the repeat.
