Crocheting a bucket hat, help!

Raneem

Question

Hello! So I’m crocheting this pattern for a bucket hat and I just finished the top. And now going to work on the bottom but with this pattern, it works with the back loops and it leaves the front looks and when you do that you can see a line separating the top from the body, is there a way I can do it so that there’s no line and the hat flows from top to body? I’m working with Half-double crochets btw! Thank you

You are not doing anything wrong, that is what happens when you work in the back loops.

If your hat is supposed to be a pronounced bucket style, the transition is probably on purpose -- making a round of BLO, which creates that visual line, purposely creates a visual transition from the 'bottom of the bucket' to the sides, and also helps to make the change in direction more crisp.

The only way to eliminate the transition would be to start over and make the whole hat in the back loops, or in both loops, but it may loose the bucket look.
