I am trying to find the pattern Newborn cap

Do you have a picture? That's a pretty generic name. A ravelry or google search brings up lots of choices.

Grandkids, I think if you are not a member of Ravelry you may not see the selection of patterns that Greyhoundgrandma chose (that happens when I click on a Ravelry link here and I'm not also logged on to Ravelry).  You can create your own search parameters using that link tho, type the pattern name in the search box, and choose other things in the filters on the left side like 'free' or 'crochet'. This site is a database of patterns that exist or existed "anywhere", it hosts some patterns but many database items are only listings of the publication it appeared in, which you will have to hunt down yourself.  If you put quote marks around "newborn cap" it narrows it down to just 8 (free) patterns.
