Sea Glass Throw red heart yarnspirations

Question

Hi, I am having trouble with the center square of this pattern, specifically how to end round 3.  It says "join with ch 1, hdc in top of beginning ch-3 (joining ch 1, hdc count as a corner ch-3 space)".

Does anyone have a short video on how to make the full center square of this pattern or at least the first 4-5 rows?

I am so stuck... I keep trying and can't get it...

Thanks in advance!

Dawn

Welcome to the 'ville!

I make a lot of lace doilies, and this is a familiar technique.  Sometimes patterns (usually a little lacy) will need you to position the start of the next round in a different spot than usual, 'before' (to the right of) where the end of the last round/start of the next would normally be, by making a "chain loop" comprised of a hybrid of chain(s) on the right side of the loop and a stitch on the left side. It looks like this /\ , where the black side are chain(s) (1 in your case), and the red side is a stitch about equal in height to the number of chains (HDC in your case).  That leaves your hook at the top of the peak in the right position to do whatever comes next.
