loose stitches, tunisian

cavierbay

Question

hello!  I could use some help.  I am doing some Tunisian crochet.  I am using a wooden hook,(H or G)  with cotton yarn

The stitches are very loose.  Can some tell me why or how to fix this?

Thank you so much!!

It sounds like your tension may be too loose.

Another suggestion; If you are using the hook size recommended on the yarn label, then  apply some furniture polish all over the hook. Be sure to rub off all the polish so it does not get on the yarn. I prefer wax polish. This will help the hook to glide easier through the yarn.

If that doesn't help, try going down 1 size smaller hook and make a swatch with about 10-15 stiches to see if it helps. If gauge is necessary, you would have to possibly add stitches to make it the correct length.  Hope one of these suggestions help.

If you have wax paper on hand *, that works great to wax my bamboo knitting needles as I don't have any wooden hooks...

*(I use it to cover things in the microwave, I prefer it plastic wrap as it doesn't get all limp and the wax surprisingly doesn't melt)
