HELP adjusting patterns to fit different chest sizes for toddlers

Hi everyone!

I've been learning how to crochet whilst on maternity leave and am now crocheting clothes for a few of my friends/family and making a little bit of extra money! I'm completely self taught from you tube tutorials and I have made a dress for my daughter who is 2. I have now had an order for the same dress but for a larger size.

How do I adapt the pattern to fit the new size? So for example if I chain 52 to begin for an age 2 how do I work out how many chains to start with for an age 4 for example?

Sorry if it's confusing I think I'm also confusing myself 🙈

Nobody can tell you that, there are uncountable variables - what yarn are you using?  What is your stitch tension?  What pattern are you using?  You are going to have to figure this out by yourself--what works for me for your pattern may or may not won't work for you.  That sounded a little snippy, sorry; I mean there's no "oh, the rule is chain 52 for age 2, chain x for age 3, chain y for age 4" sort of thing.

Also, there are other things to consider (length, sleeve opening....)

Your best bet is to find a written pattern that is designed for multiple sizes - a LOT of patterns are sized from baby to toddler.  Can you link to what your dress pattern looks like?  Maybe one of us can find a pattern that is similar and multi sized.

Here is a dress pattern sized for 18 months to 6 years, that gives chest measurements -- there are 2 links near the bottom, top link in English and the chest measurments for that dress, presumably, not body measurement, below that https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/girls-lace-pinafore

This pattern is a yoke meant to attach to a fabric dress, similarly sized to the above, but you could probably make increases below the yoke every few rows, at each side, to turn it into a dress. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/kindergarten-dress

Another multi sized one - https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/watermelon-dress

Another, this is on the blog and gives measurements for different sizes https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sally-princess-dress
