Hi, welcome to the 'ville!

Ah, vintage patterns--I love 'em, but they can be interesting.  If this were a very modern pattern, I'd lean toward 'that d might a typo', but 'every third stitch' sort of instruction is not an unusual for a vintage (pre 1950-ish) pattern (in my experience).  More modern patterns would tend to say 'skip 2, dc in the next st' sort of thing.

Whenever I am scratching my head at something like this, I try to look at the finished item's pattern photo and find the row I'm at - a lot of times that can settle any confusion.

What pattern are you making?  (Is it an Elizabeth Hiddleson pattern?--it seems to me she uses that wording, but it's been a while since I made one of hers) I'm a thready, too...

Thank you for your input.  I finally figured out it meant 3rd dc and it worked.  The picture I have is small and hard to see the pattern well.

The pattern is from Crochet Country Fair/ Lily Mills #51  I got it from Purple Kitty Yarns.com/freevintagecrochet.com.

I'm not using thread size but 4ply cotton Peaches & Cream ecru
