Need help with a pattern please

Katie Louise

Question

I don’t understand this part of a US pattern..

ch4, start 2 sc in second ch from hook, sc in next st, 6 sc in the last St. Continue on the other side of the foundation chain, sc in the next 2 st, slst in the first St [11]

If I follow the pattern I end up with 12 stitches not 11.. I’m confused!

You are making an oval.  The chain that you skipped at the very beginning (the first chain from the hook), and the last slst, don't count as stitches.

I drew a crude stitch diagram below, there are 11 x (sc) stitches.  Is it possible you slip stitched into the (red) skipped chain and not the first sc?
