My pattern says after row 1 turn. 148 stitches. Then it gives instructions for row 2. Can someone please explain what the 148 stitches are? I am making a baby blanket.

Some patterns, like this one, helpfully provide a summary at the end of the row for the total number of stitches you should end up with - sort of a 'sanity check'.  So hopefully you have ended up with 148 stitches.

Occasionally they'll give more detail breaking down the stitch count, like '100 DCs, 48 chain spaces' for example.
