What is this stitch or knot?

Dear all,

I have come across this stitch and I cannot figure out what this is. It looks like nothing I know. Would you good people try and help to figure out what this stitch is? Is this crochet at all? Thank you for your help. https://www.behance.net/gallery/604012/In-de-Knoop-light

Intriguing.  I don't recognize it as crochet or knit, and you'd think working with whatever that is (plastic tubing?) you'd want to keep it simple.

Might be macrame or some sort of other knotting technique.

Looks like it may be a Nalbinding (Viking Knitting) stitch which would explain why it's referred to as a knitting technique.
