2020 Stashbusting CAL

This is a continuation of last year's game. With the start of the new year, you get to start with ZERO for your point score. If you want, keep your 2019 score in your signature to remind you to "Do Better".

General Rules:

  • Please sign up to this thread. I will be putting all the names at the end of this post so that we know who's playing.
  • Please include your Stashbustin score your signature. Example: WTD=+5 YTD=+27.
  • Please post your scores by Midnight on Saturday, so that the scorekeeper can pick them up. Shortly after that, the scorekeeper will be tallying the scores and posting them on Sunday.
  • Please make your score easy to be seen. Large numbers and pretty colors really help.

Example:   WTD=+7 YTD=-9  (WTD= week to date and YTD = Year to date)

Weekly Scores

  • First (gold), second (silver) and third (bronze) will be noted on the scorekeeping list on Sunday, along with all the other scores.
  • If you have the largest total in receiving yarn and not using it up, it is called the "Shoot the Moon" award.
  • The "Shoot the Moon" winner from the previous week will be responsible for posting the scores the following week.
  • NOTE: If the "Shoot the Moon" winner is not available to post the scores, please contact @TexasPurl as early as possible so that scores can be posted in a timely manner.
  • The scorekeeper should post by 12 noon Eastern Time on Sunday. If it will be posted at another time, due to work, church, etc., please notify the group so that they will know when to expect their scores.

Scorekeeping

Positive Points

  • For every skein of yarn you use up completely, you get two (2) points. (A skein of yarn is a brand new bundle that you have bought at a store or its equivalent. If you roll it into smaller cakes or balls, it will still count as two (2) points when you use them completely.)
  • For every skein of yarn that you roll into a ball, you get one (1) point.
  • For every ball of yarn you use up, you get one (1) point.

Points can be earned by crocheting, knitting, crafting or donations.

Negative Points

  • For every skein of yarn you buy, receive, or inherit, you lose two (2) points.
  • For every ball of yarn you buy, receive, or inherit, you lose one (1) point.

This is an on-going CAL. Feel free to join at any time!

When you start playing with us for the first time, you DON'T COUNT what's in your stash. For many of us, that would be impossible. You get points when you use up what's in your stash or lose points when you add to your stash.

Your first scores will be posted January 4th, and the first list of scores will be posted on January 5th for the week ending on January 4th.

If you have any questions just post them to the thread.

Good luck with your STASHBUSTING!

Anyone else organizing and inventory-ing your stash so you know what you've got as we go into 2020??

I just did mine and binned a ton of balled & unlabeled stuff that I've been keeping for YEARS and have finally accepted that I'm never going to use them. 56 balls and 7 skeins!

Now I've got my inventory done, my stash sorted, my WIPs all together and the yarn needed for my next 3 projects set up ♡ AND a nice jump start on my score!

That makes me tired just thinking about it. LOL I've tried to inventory mine twice over the years and never got all the way through it either time. Once I tried listing it in a notebook, then I took pictures and put it on ravelry but either way I would forget to adjust the list when I used something. Mine is somewhat divided into boxes of different brands with most of the baby on one shelf and most of the cotton on another.

Well I fell off the bandwagon something fierce this past year what with my move and starting a job where I constantly have overtime. but I'm determined to stashbust! I joined another crafting stashbusting group on FB and it has a unique setup that I wanted to share with you ladies!
Hey everyone! This is my Introduction and my goals post! My name is Malisa I'm 27 and I work full time 3rd shift at a casino so my life is ALWAYS hectic. I knit, crochet, sew, cross stitch, and also dabble in painting and dyeing yarn. I am saving up to either go to Reinbeck in October or Maryland's Alpaca and Fiber fest in November. So my goal is to clear out some spots in my yarn stash for what I will bring home and also have a decent sized chunk of money allotted (I will also be putting the money that I don't spend into an actual jar to keep and save for that purpose!)

I'm giving myself a crafting budget of
$25 for each month.

For yarn usage because I do a lot of little projects or really big projects like blankets; instead of getting a credit for each crocheted or knitted thing I finish I'm going to give myself

50 cents- for using 50% or less of the original skein of yarn (at the start of this endeavor i.e. if I have a partial skein weighting 80 grams and I use less than 40 grams of it)

$1- for more than 50% of the skein (same analogy more than 40 grams)

25 cents- for each project finished in yarn.

Any crafting that I finish that isn't knit or crocheted:

$1- if it took me less than 15 hours to complete it.

$2- if it took between 15 and 50 hours to complete it.

$5- if it took more than 50 hours to complete.

I will post my scores as normal on here and then at the end of the month I will share how much I spent or saved!

Feel free to join me in this savings attempt I'm excited. (though if you don't have the means or desire you don't also have to save back the money for real)

If I tried to inventory my stash, I’d be at it all week!  I have it socked away all over the house. :lol

Count me in. I'm working on a baby afghan for a baby shower on Feb. 1st. I've got 30 squares done (6 more to go), but no :yarn used yet. The rainbow colors took about  1/4 (+/-) of 4.5 oz. skeins, the white is 14.1 oz. and the black is a 28 oz. Endless Impeccable. When I'm done, there might be enough left for 2 more baby afghans (or 1 large one).

Ellie 13     HAPPY NEW YEAR !!  :yay

I'm down to weaving in the ends and sewing on buttons on the greyhound sweater. Started a continuous granny lap throw with that yarn. Used up two more balls...+2  = +3. These are all pinks left over from a blanket I made two years ago. Hope there's enough for the lap throw.

Surprising I got so much done this week. I finished off 2 skeins of thread, but had to order 2 more. 1 skein on a knitted sweater and 4 balls on shelter mats. Starting the year off on a good note!

I'm still slogging away on my socks and baby blanket, so I'm a big goose eggs for the week. I'm planning to do more on my Sophie's Universe Afghan this week, so hopefully I'll use up more skeins!

The sweater is packaged and ready to mail. I thought I might finish the last pink ball on the lap throw, but there's been too much other stuff to do.

I got a little crochet time in and finished that ball.

Have you noticed that as you get to the end of a project you just don't want to work on it anymore? Seriously struggling with this right now on my Unicorn Rozeta. It's my mother's Christmas gift so I truly do need to get it done, but I'm working on the bottom panel and ugh!!! I just don't wanna....so I switched to making a dishcloth the momma requested instead lol.

This week I tossed/donated 56 balls and 7 untouched skeins, then finished using 2 skeins on my Unicorn Rozeta and used a skein on the dishcloth already....and then was gifted 3 skeins as a late Christmas gift....

WTD +70

YTD +70

I am determined to make a BIG dent in my stash this year because I went really crazy last year.  Once I've completed my Unicorn and the mondo-sized dragon I started last summer, I've got a handful of stuffies  to make for friends,  3 babies to make for who are all due February or March,  and I've just joined a group that collects pouches and cuddles and blankets for injured wildlife in Australia,  so I'll be working on those too!

Not meaning to whine, but I don’t see mine here. I was WTD = 0. I posted last night here. 😎
