What kind of stitches are these?

SharCo

Question

Okay, I will admit, I'm not very good at crochet. I'm a knitter. A good friend asked me if I could fix this blanket and I said I'll give it a try. I was hoping to fix it with Kitchener stitch but I know it won't look the same. I'm willing to learn if I could only figure out the name of these stitches, maybe I can find a tutorial somewhere. What do you guys think? What do you recommend to fix this?

Google a phrase such as Crochet Repair, and you'll find a few general tutorials.  Basically you have to stabilize the tops of sts in the lower row and bottoms of sts in the upper row.  Then join the two edges back together.  It doesn't look like there are rows missing that you have to recreate.  I'm concerned that there may be many places where the yarn broke, definitely looks that way in the border.   I guess if you can rejoin the edges using a knitting technique, that will be effective.   Can you tell what kind of yarn it is? It looks well loved so I guess it is fairly old.
