Help with crocheting "toast"

AP73

Question

I have the following instruction and I can't count 32 stitches from it,

"2nd round: 3ch, 1tr in each of next 2tr, [tr inc, 1ttr, tr inc] in next tr, [1tr in each of next 3tr, (tr inc, 1ttr, tr inc) in next tr] 3 times, sl st to top of beg 3ch.....32sts"

I don't understand how you can get 32 stitches from the instructions.  Please help.  I would really appreciate it if somebody could demystify the whole instructions for me.  I'm just a beginner crochet.

Thank you very much

Kindest,

AP

Hi, welcome to the 'ville!

Let's count.

3ch, 1

1tr in each of next 2tr,  2

[tr inc, 1ttr, tr inc] in next tr,  5

[1tr in each of next 3tr, (tr inc, 1ttr, tr inc) in next tr] 3 times, 3+5=8, times 3=24

sl st to top of beg 3ch (usually doesn't count)

So you have 1+2+5+24=32

Normally a (any stitch) increase means putting 2 into 1, if the designer meant a bigger number into 1 they'd be more specific.  The initial 3 chains is the 'turning chain', and normally counts as a stitch unless the pattern says otherwise. (edit, except for US SC / UK DC, where the turning chain usually does not count as a stitch)
