Larksfoot throw - Bumpy look on one side

I am working on my second larksfoot stitch throw and am frustrated by the bumpy look on one side of my throw.  Is there a trick to keeping the sided straight?

There is a chance what you are seeing is normal and its the reason we often add a border.
