Unknown blanket pattern

Sorry for poor quality photo. I came across this old photo of my daughter and a blanket I would like to replicate. Have been looking online with no joy in finding similar looking pattern. 

Can anyone help? Not even sure if this is knit or crochet, looking for crochet pattern.

To me it sort of looks like its knitted squares that were joined together.  

This one is crochet and has the eyelets but doesnt look any where as cuddly as your picture.

Welcome to the 'ville!  Agree with Bgs that the original looks knit -- good find on the crochet replacement.

The midwife blanket is all 1 piece, but it wouldn't be hard to turn it into squares, or even easier stripes like the original one is color-wise.

Thank you ladies, I think that it's knit the more I look at it too. 

The midwife blanket was closest I came to similar pattern too.
