granny squares work and chat friends 2020 new thread

Good Morning

I'm enjoying my sewing room today, working on masks.

Mary Jo the school district just north of mine has decided to open with everyone learning online. My district is still debating between online, in the classroom or a combination of the two. My daughter is a pediatric nurse and says they are seeing more cases at the hospital and that the after affects for some kids is worse than the actual virus. There are kids going in to cardiac arrest and having strokes after they have recovered from Covid.

I think I am going to avoid watching the news today and try to relax a bit.

I hope you all have a great day.

cshort, I have not watched the news in a long time.  As I am getting changed in the morning, DH has the local on.  Now they are looking at on line, on line with a chance of going into school each seminister or full school opening.

Cloudy today, waiting for the rain.

Brenda glad to hear your sister is healing.

I am going back to my afghan.

Have a fun day.

I am sitting here watching the news and they are talking about Fay.  She is hitting Atlantic City and they say it is only a Tropical Storm?  Please anyone in the area and further up be careful.  They are saying it will travel up the coast and the beach is almost under water now.

Thoughts are with everyone.

My granddaughters are going back to school next month. That will be a very sad day for me to drive them back to their home :(. By now I got use to having them here :). One thing for sure having them hear is never boring LOL  Classes on Line are not good for kids. Yes, I am very worry about them, my whole family & friends because of that virus. That is a VERY BAD virus!. But when it comes to kids the news is good. Thank God for that!.

The reality is, more kids will die from Flu than from that Corona-Virus. They do not get infected with that virus and they do not spread that virus. There are some cases that child will get infected with that C-virus, NOT many of them, it is very rare.  They do need to go back to school. It is good for them and their parents. That is the only way they will get good education. Many parents are not even suitable to help those kids with their education, some they do not even care to try.  As we all know many parents can not go back to work until their kids will go back to school. Because they need to stay home and take care of them.

In a perfect world no child would ever die from anything. Not from any illnesses, not from accidents & not from..... Unfortunately we do not live in a perfect world.

Teachers will need to be careful not to spread that virus between them.

good afternoon

that's heartbreaking that the after effects are so harsh on little kids

my mother was 4 yrs old in 1918, when the other one hit, and she had life long heart issues, and died in her 40's

they said life expectancy was getting cut 12 yrs off their life span

I watched a show on the 1918 Flu and it was facinating.  They spoke about where it came from and how it was spread.  My Mom had a friend that lost almost all of her family during that flu.  I think that is one reason why my Mom made sure we got all our shots, even ones the school did not require.  Every year when they were offered, we got a flu shot, I think that is why I still get one.

I am not saying this thing is contagious.  They have to do something with the kids, as they found that not many studied or even came on line.

They had some Covid parties, cause some idiots thought it was not for real.  Well, I just read that someone has died from Covid that went to one of the parties.  Makes you wonder where these peoples brains are at.

Well, it is raining again, so I think I will watch it.

oh pic time   my first pine ridge afghan is finished all but the laundering of it which is in right now  i laid it on my queen size bed, and snapped a pic before i put it in the washer   I started it in mid may, and finished it July 3 i think  took me at least 2 and a half days weaving in  the ends on the back!!! took me a while to figure out placement of that one big green square in the middle but finally got it centered i think or close enough lol  took the work of many people besides me to make it but after its bath, I will count squares in it and recheck ends and seams and bag it and box it for posting out before winter rolls in there.  whew  its almost completly out of my hands now i did my best, and even though i weaved in very securely, and given the right treatment while washing, nothing lasts forever right lol  reminds me of one i had made for a friend once, and she let her younger kids play hole big  which was how big can you make the spaces with your toes??,

, and  then calmly asked for another, i did not make her another  you have to really at least show some another i did not make another one for was a sister in lw then and i went to her back door one time to see her, and it was kinda icy and cold still and as i stood there at the door i glanced over to the window well, as my caught something familiar there  stuck icy mud and snow  down in the window well was the pretty varg and greenzig zag i had made for her for xmas one time  I was like just a knife in my heart  i never told her, i just vowed then and there, never again you know   i could only then imagine all the time i had spent not only on that ghan but on each of her 4 kid'S hats and matching scarves too   wow, an eye opener huh ah well i heard of one lady that her relative wanted or used an afghan she had made, to put on the garage floor to soak up oil on the floor    have these kinds of people and others never heard of cat litter or oil soak!!!  sheesh not to even mention the meaning orl ove or  work that went into that ghan n i was without words when i heard that  there are more horror stories in the naked city, this has just been a few of them lol

And that, my friends, is why I almost always  donate my afghans to military hospitals, and nursing homes--I'll never know what becomes of them!!  :shrug

Nice Place-Mat!

Talking about "none usable" Place-Mats Set.  Few years ago I made for my daughter a Set: place-mats, pot holders, coasters. For her big table (with glass top) in her dining room. She wanted those place-mats in rectangular shape for her oval platters she uses. To this day she dos NOT want to use any of that!. About a year after I made that Set for her she asked me to make for her another Set (something plain, not that nice like this one). I asked her: Why?.  She told me: I can not use that!.  Because that Set is so nice my heart would break if something bad would happen to that. She needs to keep that Set looking nice the way it looks now!

I did started laughing when she told me that. And I told her she needs to use that, I did not made that to be siting on a shelf somewhere...LOL She told me: I use that!. I put that on a table sometimes for decoration BEFORE & AFTER we eat. When we are eating I  am taking that off that table.

She knows I sprayed couple times every piece with Fabric Protector so she will not need to wash that only wipe in case of food splatter or something..?. But, she still will NOT use that! LOL. Since I could not convince  her to change her mind, little later I did made for her 2 very plain place mats to make her happy :).

Here is a picture of that set. I did made two more coasters after that picture was taken.  That picture did not came out very good. It was taken in a "Rush time" LOL.

That is a gorgeous set, Krys!!  And thanks for the tip to spray these things with Fabric Protector--why in the world didn't I think of that!!??

Hot and humid here too.  Yesterday afternoon a pretty heavy thunderstorm blew thru.  Lots of fireworks in distance all around last couple of nights and I think they are letting them shoot them off tonight.

Wesley the woodle is moving.  Neighbor has decided to move in with her son.  She has been trying to decide what to do for past couple of years but after a fender bender and then a week later a couple of nights in the hospital she said its time.   We were just starting to get to know her.

Got my painting done and submitted the photo as requested and got my airplant set up.  Painting was for the 4th and theme was the flag.  I found a painting tutorial for this one and muddled thru-----I cant paint or draw from my head but can sometimes copy.

If that would been me, I would said something to those people who destroyed your afghans (many days, weeks of your hard work). That is really SICK how people can do that??!.

I did not made many afghans in my life. BUT those what I made they are being taken very good care. I know that because I seen pictures many years later.

About 8 or 10 years ago I made a big afghan for old friend of the family. He is an older single guy lives in Arizona. He takes care of that blanket very well. He fallows my washing & drying instructions.  He uses that only at winter time. For summer time he folds that & stores in a plastic zip-up bag made for comforters, I sent that to him for storage. He even air-dry's that blanket :).

Before that afghan I crochet for him 3- "SKINNY" ties (he asked for that). He is wearing those ties to church every Sunday. It is unbelievable but to this time those ties looking brand new :). He is very proud of them at his church LOL. He was not able to go to his church for a while  because of that Virus. He is not happy about that.

What I am trying to say it is: IF that older single guy can take a such a good care of those hand made gifts WHAT IS WRONG with those woman that you mentioned above??. If they did not like that, they should told you that or give that away to someone else. But, not to destroy that! and than ask for another one??. Some people are just plain crazy!

I just find out from my old friend that he needs face masks. I will need to sew some for him. There is a very funny story behind that & how I find out that he needs masks LOL.

Krys

My sentiments exactly, Krys!!

Hello. I hope you are all enjoying your day. Mine has been pretty quiet but I got a package of some beautiful fabrics that I had ordered and it really brightened up my day. I keep hearing thunder and the rain just started, I don't think it will last long. I have Carnival Eats on the TV and it's making me hungry, I think I need to change the channel. That's about it for my corner of the world. Stay safe everyone.

Brenda, love your work...very nice...

Hope everyone is well, we had a nice 4th, nephew had gotten a negative on his covid test andcame up for the fourth from Ft Bragg,  wouldn't you know he tested positive when he got sick on Monday....( 6th), so far we are all good but I did take the precaution of doing my grocery shopping online and just popped the trunk and let them load the groceries...

Hope things have settled down by the 3rd of Sept when princess # 2 makes her appearance... I'll be with the 3 boys and dad can't leave the hospital or he won't be allowed back in,  so who knows how long I'll be with the 5 and under crowd....

We find out July 23 what grandbaby #7 will be ( Due Dec 26)..

been doing lots of crochet, reading, its too hot to venture out much....

Be safe everyone...

Hugs

Hey Lea, the boys are really keeping you busy.  I had to laugh.  I watched a show where they were trying to get rescued dogs adopted.  Anyway they had one that was . lets just say he did not sit still.  They were worried about him being adopted.  Near the end of the time they got a call that the dog was adopted.  They went and talked to the new owner.  He said they had 5 young boys and they need a dog with a lot of energy. :rofl I lauhged and thought of you watching the boys.

I will be thinking of you. Hey you could put a tent outside and tell them they are on a camping trip.  They will love it.:rofl

Last time I had them for a long period of time I gave them buckets of water and foam paint brushes.... they have a wooden fenced in back yard so they spent the day  "painting".... I threw peanutbutter sand, goldfish crakers  & juice boxes at them periodically....🤣🤣
