Christmas Elf Slippers

The actual pattern doesn't start until the middle of page 3--you should read thru everything before that to make sure the stitch pattern make sense to you before you start.

Where the actual pattern starts, it tells you to chain x depending on the size, and then turn and make a row of  SC as a foundation row.  It then tells you to start with row 2 of the geometric pattern. After the first repeat of the pattern from foundation row and rows 2 thru 4, you'll follow the stitch pattern from the 'row 1' of the geometric pattern--the very start into the chain wouldn't work with the geometric pattern's row 1.

The stitch pattern is not a simple one, it has you working into stitches 2 rows below, and working in back or front loops.  The pattern is rated as easy, I would call it at least intermediate.  The pattern appears to me to be well written in that it gives you clear instructions of where to put your hook for all the unusual steps, though.

After saying all that...was there a specific step that you were questioning?

If that pattern is too confusing...this one looks fairly simple.  https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/elf-slippers-with-curled-toes

But, it's more of a recipe than a pattern, it relies on you to work a triangle to your stitch gauge and yarn size, to use however many stitches you need to fit a measured foot.
