Beginner Help: double chain with a single chain

Hello, I am a newbie here. I came across an instruction that really confuses me. It says "Make 4 chain (double chain with a single chain)." and I cannot for the life of me figure out what this means. Is this just a double crochet stitch?

I think its a typo.  I am guessing this is a chain 4 at the start of a row and it is trying to tell you that the chain 4 is equal to a double crochet chain 1 as far as your stitch count.

Welcome to the 'ville!  I agree with Bgs, it looks like a typo plus a bit of an aberration from normal pattern writing (or perhaps the writer isn't a native English speaker).  Often patterns will say chain 4 (counts as 1 DC plus 1 chain), but are usually clear about the 'counts as' being just a sanity check not a further instruction.
