There are 2 ways to do rounds, join and spiral. Your pattern is a spiral.

Joined rounds means that at the end of the round, you slip stitch to the first stitch. Next you chain up (ch1 for sc) to start the next round.

Spiral rounds are done continuously. At the end of the round, you just keep going, ignoring that you ended one round and started the next one.

It's really easy to lose where one round ends and the next one starts. Mark the first stitch in each round. You can use a running stitch marker or move a stitch marker up each round. I prefer a running stitch marker. Get a piece of scap yarn in a different color. Lay it over the first stitch. Flip it over the next first stitch. At the end, pull it out. It will spiral to the right. This is normal due to crochet stitches slanting to the right.
