Kool-Aid Dying?

Protein based fibers take dye better.

I did dye fun fur a shade of yellow that I needed to match my MIL's dress. I used vinegar with the rit like I do with my kool aid.

Here is a quote from the rit website

-----------------------

Rit dyes will color most washable fabrics, including cotton, linen, rayon, wool and silk and some synthetics, including nylon and acetate. Blends of fiber, such as cotton and polyester or acrylic will tint to a lighter color

-----------------------

So you can dye acrylic yarns, just expect a lighter color

Well, I can't show you the hat I made for MIL as well.....she was buried in it.

But honestly, I took white fun fur and made one of those no hair day kind of chemo caps. (she loved the purple one I had made her previously) When she picked out the dress she wanted to wear to her funeral (ok...I know sounds morbid) we couldn't find any of the fun fur or other eyelash yarns to match the shade of the dress. I played with rit dye and the hat stayed in my crock pot for about 24 hours. When I took it out it was a neat shade of yellow that matched the dress wonderfully.

I don't think it's easy to use Rit and wouldn't recommend it for everything, but it did work for the fun fur :artist
