I have had this pattern from Crochet Village for quite a while.  I made a few changes in it, but other wise it is the same.  I made it with thread, they made it with WW yarn.

I like the way it turned out.

It's adorable! It looks like a ton of work, especially with thread. The white smoke stack is a cute detail. Are the doll and pumpkins separate or connected to the train? (Separate makes it playable and connected makes it more decorative.) Either way, I love it!

eta: The name of the site where you got the pattern got me thinking. I've seen decorative villages in ceramic & wood. What about one in thread crochet?

Actually, The doll and pumpkins are sew in. I guess you could add legs to the engineer and make it playable. If you can look at the pattern picture.  I have the engine wrong, but I like the way it looks.  The worst part was the 18 wheels.  Front and back.
