Question

I'm starting a new project today, (and new to the forum, hi all!) and it's been years since I've followed a pattern, I'm already stuck on the first row and feeling like giving up already. Was hoping you could decipher for me.

Sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 8 ch, [3 sc in next ch, sc in next 17 ch] 7 times, 3 sc in next ch, sc in last 9 ch changing to B in last st; turn.

i understand the abbreviations, I know to change colors, turn, etc, but when it's telling me to sc 1, then 8, then 3 then 17, 7 times, aren't I just sc the entire row? Do they just break it down to smaller parts to make it simpler or am I missing something?

Any help would be appreciated!

Welcome to Crochetville from me, too!

When something doesn't make sense to me, like wondering why they wrote it that way, it's usually because I'm misreading it. My fix is to write it out long hand. That forces me to see it differently. Try it and see if it helps.
