Crocheting irregular shapes

Question

So im making a rug and coming up with the pattern as i go but im having issues moving forward with it. I crocheted a trimoon which has alot of curves and i need to build it out to be able to finish the rest but i cant figure out how to get around all the curves and still have it be able to lay flat and not bunch up on me. Please help.

Welcome to Crochetville!

Is having it solid important to you? If not, you can fill the valleys with long stitches & chains. For example, stop the sc stitch 4 from the bottom of a valley. Do a tr v-st in the valley. Then sk 4 stitches on the far side of the valley and sc again.

If yes, sc down the valley a little bit, then sc across to the far side of the valley. Skip all the stitches in the valley. You can then leave the skipped section alone or go back later and sew the sides of the valley together.

You can even do a combination. Sc the sides together. Then in the next rnd do a tr or dc v-st to level it out.

I hope this makes sense! Let me know.
