Our House (Part Three)

Recommended Posts

We lucked out with just a dusting but there was more to our north.  The problem with this one is the glaze of ice left after they clear away the snow and its so cold chemicals wont melt it.  Wind is sort of bad making it pretty cold out.  Dh is practicing on the dulcimer since dulcimer meeting was cancelled.  I need to figure out my next project so maybe its time to make a few ministockings while I give it some thought.  I just finished working in 200 ends on 100 thread ornaments for next year.  Now to get them pinned out and stiffened.

Hi peeps!

Woke to -18 real feel temps! Walked around my kitchen bundled up to even wearing fingerless gloves till the hot coffee kicked in! We have no insulation in our house and the windows ...well, I'll save my language for DH later on if he asks my opinion.

Working on the trellis stripe pattern Sweet Pea blanket from Attic24, as well as using the smaller version of the pattern to make a christening blanket. Using white is boring, so I mix up the patterns I use.

Stay warm and safe, my friends. Spring is just over 2 months away!

Good Monday morning, everyone. :)

Mona ~ Keeping fingers crossed that the pathology results come back better than last time. :hug  Congratulations on being so close to the finish line on the blanket!

Hi Debbie!  Stay safe and warm.  So many are having extreme cold right now - I feel fortunate that we're in the 40's this a.m. :yes

Cindy ~  I hope you were able to go out to dinner Sat. night.  How is your MIL doing in her new 'home'?  I saw the preemie hats you made and they're very sweet. :)

Brenda ~ 100 thread ornaments!  Way to go!  I haven't worked with thread in years and really admire those of you who do.

Judy ~ Have you warmed up yet?  Your temps/wind chills are incredible!  I love Lucy's trellis pattern and can't wait to see your afghans.

DD, SIL and the boys came over yesterday and we had a wonderful day.  I made sliders, pasta salad, tater tots and a fruit tray.  Talk about picnic food in January! Lol  The boys requested the menu except for the pasta salad.  (I always put a ton of veggies in it and that could have something to do with it.)  Luke taught me how to play Fortnite Monopoly...I definitely need more lessons. :lol

We're in for the day and I have a big pot of soup going.  Crochet time later!

It's going to be warmer today but there'll be rain with it. Playing catch up today since I accomplished nothing yesterday. We took a cake to a friend whose husband died and then made the 45 minute trip to pick up DH's truck from the shop. It quit again about two miles from the shop. They got it towed back at their expense. At least I got lunch out of it. Ended up taking a looong nap when we got back and still went to bed before 10.

I've got to put the soup I made Sunday in the freezer, go to a meeting this afternoon and try to finish putting up Christmas stuff before the grandson get here at 5:30.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Judy  sometimes we wear beanies in the house because the tops of our heads get cold.  My chair is right under a vent and "warm" air coming from the ground source heat pump in the winter feels just like the cold air coming from it in the summer.  Had to laugh a bit about your dh and insulation remark.  Our walls are ok but you can sure feel cold drafts around window frame door frame and baseboards.  Just need to pull the trim and squirt the foam insulation in the gaps.  Now to be honest when he gets it too hot for me with the wood stove I am thankful for the drafts.  After he goes to bed I open the front door or raise a window.

Mona sounds like you did a lot yesterday just not what you planned.  Sorry about the truck and your friend. I understand what its like on those 45 to an hour one way trips.  They suck a lot of time out of your life.  I havent put my Christmas stuff away but its mostly snow people which seems appropriate to have out for Jan.

Sounds like we all made soup.  I made a huge pot because I had a gal ziploc bag full of stalks and leaves from the broccoli, cauliflower, and celery I cut up on Wed.  Good thing dh likes hot and spicy because I added more  cajun seasoning and hot peppers than I intended to.  He was glad I warned him to taste it first and not just arbitrarily be adding his tobasco sauce to it.

Our yesterday didnt go as planned either. I started the wash and dh was picking up limbs when one of dulcimer ladies called to see if dh could come practice so The church where we meet has a Chocolate Festival as a fund raiser and different groups provide back ground music.  Since the lady is a member they only charge us $50 to meet there instead of like $700 they charge others for less space.  She has been encouraging dh to vome play at this for several months.  It just seems like we should support the church if we can since they give us a tremendous break to use their fellowship hall.  Its a 45 to an hour trip one way, a couple hours of practice so I was folding laundry last night at bedtime.

Hi peeps!

Wind blown rain this morning - so happy it's not snow - or cold enough for ice! It seems if you wait a short time another season comes passing through. a couple of days ago we drove to the nearby town of Keyport and looked at the bay after the bitter weather: the water level was down at least ten feet - and it was iced over! One boat that hadn't been pulled out to nth water was stuck in it really good. We've never seen the water level that low!

Here's a pic of the sloped ramp where the people launch their boats....that's all ice, as far as the eye can see. On a beautiful day we can see the Manhattan skyline on the far right, toward the horizon...

Good morning. It’s been mostly bitterly cold here for the past few days. We have had snow and ice, and then yesterday afternoon it got warm enough for some rain and ice mixed. Glad I got to stay home yesterday. It’s back to bitterly cold again with snow on the way. I have to work tomorrow, hopefully it’s not much snow.

I made more premie hats hats this weekend. What a good way to use up yarn leftover from other projects.  I ought to be working on UFOs though.  Still, I can now say that I have 9 finishes for the year!:)

Brenda, I can’t imagine making 100 thread ornaments. Just the thought of it makes my hands hurt!

Mary, yes, we got out to dinner on Saturday.  Mil is doing okay physically, they are working on allowing her to walk without staff standing by.  Mentally, she is failing.  She seems more confused every time we see her.  Dh and I think that the private room that we are paying extra for is part of the reason.  She pretty much refuses to leave it, except for meals, so she is always sitting in there by herself.   All that isolation can’t be good for her.

Judy, that must be a wonderful scene when there are lots of boats. It looks pretty nice when it’s mostly ice!

Mona, my brother in law has MGUS.  His vision has really taken a hit, and his numbers are getting worse as well. He had a negative bone marrow biopsy in December though.  Fingers crossed for your Dh.

Judy enjoyed the picture.

Cindy I hope your mil starts doing better.  I dont know how social she was before this but I can see myself doing what she is doing as I have isolation tendencies.  I was painfully shy as a child.

Tues we had rain, flash freezing that night and then a touch of snow on top.  Wed we had the first sunshine we had seen in 10 days.  We are looking at a few bitterly cold days down to around 0.

I have made and made and mailed off a couple of shawls. Both were made with Lion Brand Mandala yarn.

It's cold again here but at least the sun is shining. We're headed to a hamfest (amateur radio) tomorrow and home Saturday. I plan to be a crocheting couch potato.

Cindy, his numbers were worse than they had been but it looks like it's progressed to smoldering multiple myeloma and not full MM. He goes back for a PET scan next week and then maybe a referral to Little Rock to a myeloma specialist. He's anemic but the dr thinks it's iron deficiency not beginning MM. So over all not bad results, just worse than before.

Brenda, pretty shawls!

Brenda--those shawls are beautiful!!  That yarn works up beautifully, doesn't it?!!

Collette I was really afraid of working with it because I was unsure if I would like the looks of where the colors just happen to change and was extremely worried about joining another cake of yarn to it. I like the more subtle color changes in it but not fond of the more obvious ones.  The yarn itself is so soft and I loved working with it.  I did hit 3 places in one cake of the Gnome where I had to cut sections out because it was too thin.  I do really love this pattern.  It is Darski's green with envy shawl.

That's sad to see...my MIL was one who wouldn't join in with anything at the nursing home. It doesn't help their mind set when they are like that :(

Judy, that must be a wonderful scene when there are lots of boats. It looks pretty nice when it’s mostly ice!

I'll have to get a picture from that same spot once Spring/Summer arrives! It is awesome to see a sea of masts!

Good morning, all.  Our Uverse has been coming and going for two days and no one is happy about it...they are supposed to have 'the problem' fixed, so we shall see!  I've been lurking on my phone, but it's so hard to post from it.

Time for me to get busy.  Have a good morning. ♥♥♥

Hi ladies. It’s been a very snowy day here.  My daughters office ( she’s a nurse practitioner) was closed today, as were all other out patient offices in the system.  It’s the same system that I work for, but of course I would have had to go to work.  All told we probably got a foot of snow today.  Plus it’s bitterly cold.

I am off until Thursday. I spent today weeding through books. I got rid of a lot, but there are still a lot left.  Dd is going to go through the kids books before I donate those.  I kept a shelf full so the grandkids would have some to read when they are here.  I even managed to reduce my huge cookbook collection to one 30 inch shelf!

On Friday, the day before my birthday, they had put up a big sign at work saying “happy birthday, Cindy”.  I never noticed it, and could not figure out why so many people were wishing me a happy birthday. I must have been wearing blinders when I came in.  On Saturday, our children and grand children brought breakfast over.  Dh took me out for a nice dinner and then we went to dd’s House for birthday cake.

Hope everyone one is doing well.

Cindy, I have a hard time getting rid of books, but i have cookbooks that I haven't looked at in years. I really need to purge!

I slept a little late this morning so I don't know what the low was, 26 when I got up. 60 yesterday and by the time the temps dropped last night, the rain had passed so no snow for us. We'll have two days in the 30's. Brrrr!

Hope everyone is staying warm!

Good Morning!  I hope everyone in the path of the arctic front is safe and warm.  The worst of it is north of us and we have sunshine and 22* right now.

Cindy ~ Your birthday sounds like it was a wonderful day!

Brenda ~ I love the colors you used for the shawls!  I'm always hesitant to use the 'color changing' yarn, but yours turned out perfectly. :yes

Mona ~ Thank you for letting us know about your DH's tests.  Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. :hug

DD and I had lunch together yesterday and it was so fun.  It's so seldom that just the two of us get together.  She and a long time friend (since the 6th grade!) have spent the last year researching and planning their online store and are ready to open Feb 1st!  They are selling women's athletic and leisure clothing and have a beautiful website.  They've already been selling locally and are doing well.  So proud of them!

I'm not sure if I can post a link to their site?  It will go live on the 1st, but she gave me their temp password so I can see what they're doing. :)

Hubby has an appointment this afternoon and I'm taking Zoe to the vet for labs this a.m.

News flash....still snowing here in Michigan. Winter storm watch that started Sunday has been extended to Thursday afternoon....):

Dd said 4 of her patients have already cancelled today and so far one was a no show.  Sounds like she is having an easy day.

Mona, I haven’t actually donated those books yet....but I have boxed them up for donation.

Mary, good luck to your Dd with her business. My youngest Dd has a friend who runs something similar with her sisters.  They seem to be doing quite well.

Cindy, it looks like the winter weather is making up for being late this year! The air outside today is cold when you breathe, so no walk today. Your birthday sounds like it was nice!  And I've been purging books too - and have some cookbooks I have to let go of - ones I have never used, or that are so basic I could get the recipes info on the internet. I have saved some from my mom and MIL - in their handwriting - which I will always keep...

Cindy happy belated birthday.  Sounds like you had a good one. Hope you make it thru the snow storm ok.

Mary congrats to your dd on her business.  I wish her much success.

We are at 19° with no wind and sunshine so its not horrible. The wind just howled all day yesterday from sun up til sundown with 60mph gusts.  We are sort of on the edge of the polar blast so not supposed to be as bad here. Its only supposed to drop to -6 or so here with windchills -40.  It is going to be far worse for others.  They are taunting us with it might get into the 60's on Sun so that is the only forecast I am focusing on.

2019 Wishlist is up.  Please consider signing up and or granting a couple of wishes so we can at least keep this part of the 'ville going

Dd says she saw a grand total of 3 patients today. Her office will be closed again tomorrow.  I’m beginning to think that this would have been a good week to go south!  It isstill snowing hard and blowing.  Most area freeways are closed due to accidents and slide offs. Ds has about a 40 mile commute and he went to work today. I hope he makes it home safely.  The city where he works doesn’t usually get snow like we do, as they are much further from the lake.  Oldest Dd said her dh worked from home again today and plans to do that tomorrow too.

Back on Dec 18, I ordered a new kitchen stove.  It was supposed to come within two weeks. Well, they finally tried to deliver it today, but called and said they couldn’t make it up our driveway after three attempts, so we would have to wait at least a few more days. Well, I would believe that, except that there is no evidence that anyone attempted to enter our driveway.  Why couldn’t they just say the roads were too bad to come out here, instead of lying?  After all, I wasn’t really expecting them to come out in this weather.

'Morning House. :)

Wow!  The pictures of the weather are incredible.  If we get an inch or two of snow, everything shuts down.  I have memories of some major storms when growing up in Iowa, but that was a long time ago.

Yet another appointment for hubby today, but not until 1:30 so I think I might crochet for a while.  Usually mornings are for chores, the desk etc. but I'm just not in the mood this morning.  Lol

Stay safe, everyone! :manyheart
