I am getting ready to crochet my first summer cardigan with short sleeves. I want it to be lightweight and lacy, airy and drape nice. Does anyone have a recommendation for the type of yarn I should use? Brand and weight?

I made a summer cardigan out of Premier's Cotton Fair and it's all those things that you want.  It's sold at Michaels, Jo-Ann's, Walmart, etc.  However, I found that the big box stores near me don't carry all of the colors.

I should have link to a picture, so that you could get an idea of what it looks like.  The picture is in one of variegated colors.  I hope more people join in with other ideas.

Yarnspirations has some cute summer cardi's.

Interweave Crochet magazine has several cardi patterns ($$). Some are on sale too. After opening a particular pattern link, if you scroll down, it will list the magazine issue the pattern is from. Maybe you can find the issue at your local library.

Ravelry has quite a few patterns also. Some free, some for $$.
