Crochet an amigurumi sponge

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I want to make a dish sponge out of tulle/ cotton yarn in the shape of different amigurumi water creatures. I'm having trouble thinking of a good stuffing. It needs to be waterproof, obviously. it doesn't need to be absorbent because the yarn will do that. It does need to be machine washable. Relatively cheap is also a bonus.

If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it.

Thank you.

I use scrubbies for dish washing made with 1 layer of acrylic yarn (TBL, gives them ridges and they 'seem' thicker), and they take forever to dry.  I make washcloths from cotton, they take even longer to dry.

I would never make a stuffed sponge for the kitchen (meant to be used, not just decoration) made from cotton or acrylic worsted weight yarn.  But something completely of tulle might work.

Red heart has some flat scrubby patterns for critters, using their scrubby yarn (I love the shark):

Oh darn, the above is filtered for only crochet patterns...I knew I'd seen a fish, but it's knit.
