Chevron stitch atarter

bmalred

Question

I am trying to make a crochet pillow cover to be a finished size of 12"x22". I am wanting to do a chevron stitch but can not seem to figure out how many stitches I need for my starting chain.

Can someone please give me advise as to how to calculate this the easiest way possible?

TIA!!

Do a swatch with at least 2 or 3 of the stitch count and 6 rows high.  Measure the middle from peak to peak or valley to valley.  This will tell you the size of one repeat.  From there you can figure out how many repeats you'll need for the width.  Chevrons are a multiple of the repeat, because 1/2 a chevron is at the start and 1/2 at the end of each row, plus your turning chain.  Add a few more chains than you think.  You can undo the extras when you weave in the starting tail.
