I worked on this doll during the Olympics CAL and finally did finish the doll up.

The pattern is Trolls to Crochet from Leisure Arts:

Thanks for the nice comments! I always loved the hair on the troll dolls because of how soft and nicely the hair could be stroked. I wanted to try to immitate this.

 

The pattern uses yarn where you loop all around the head and separate the plies, frizzing it. I'm not sure how thick it would be and if it would stand up the way I wanted. Instead, I crocheted a wig and I needle felted wool roving into it over a foam mat. I started in the middle and little by little kept adding all around to get it thick, pulling at it to make sure it was in tightly. lastly, I added tacky glue underneath and whip stitched the wig to the head, all around.

Thanks I have always wondered how I could replace the lost red hair with something similiar on my poor old guy. I know he is in a drawer somewhere. Gosh he must be around 50 years old.
