Here are some, you should be able to filter for 'free' patterns using the check list at the left side.  You can also filter on the size yarn/thread you want to use, among other things.  Some of these are for purchase as a pattern, or are listed in a book or magazine and you'd have to find the publication to get the pattern.

The South Beach Cover-up (in Granny Square's link also) is simple but cute and just think of all the different colors schemes it could be made in. It does need to be made in a light weight yarn/thread, otherwise, if worn swimming, it will stretch from the weight of the water.

Or Summer Bliss by Drops/Garnstudio in several sizes.
