I haven't seen a crochet pattern for anything like that.  The knit pattern includes a lot of info  so you can see the basics of the construction, that might be able to be used as a basis for crocheting something similar.

Whoa, that is rather unique!  I couldn't find a similar pattern in crochet, the closest I could come up with are pouf patterns (not all are free).

That is so cool looking!  I wonder what yarn and how many strands they used at the same time to make it strong enough.

From what I read it's just one strand of 5mm thick cotton 'rope'.

You just have to be very sure of where you are hanging it!
