Rippling while creating a blanket

Recommended Posts

My wife is starting her first project which is a blanket for our boys. It keeps rippling or curling. Can anyone tell us why this is happening?

It depends on the pattern, yarn, hook size and her tension.  It could be a combination of those.  Some patterns curl at the edges, but straighten out after blocking.  The type of yarn and fiber content could also be a factor.  If the hook size is too small or the tension is too tight, then it can cause rippling and curling.  Also, too many stitches together can cause rippling.

Grab your yarn and hooks, put your feet up and sit a spell.

welcome to the ville!

following up on what Sharon RedRosesdz said, there are some things you can do to get more specific suggestions.  You can post a photo of the blanket, prefereably a clear, fairly close-up shot of the part that is curling/rippling.  to post a photo just click on the paperclip icon, you may need to open up More Reply Options to see it.

Also it is very helpful to know more about the stitch pattern she is using.  If she is following a pattern, link to it if it's free online, or tell us the title and what book/magazine it is from, or if  purchased from the designer you can link to their site where we can at least see their photo of it.

there are some stitch patterns, like solid single crochet, that often tend to curl.
