Two of the times I've used this pattern. I LOVE IT so so very easy to follow and translates well into bigger yarns and hooks. The orange and bright multi color (Frank if you can see that) is worsted weight yarn 
(4-medium) and fairly thick done with an H size hook

and the Orange and blue (Don Rocco) is made with personally Hand Dyed "I love this wool" (from Hobby lobby) and a D size hook.
