I'd bought the 1-skein pattern book a while ago, it has a lot of nice things.  It's sorted by yarn weight, which is a little different but I suppose makes sense if you are wondering what to do with 1 lonely skein you have on hand...

 

I bought the Techniques book yesterday, haven't read the whole thing yet but the several chapters I have read were excellent.  A great advice book for beginners and beyond. Shows the basic stitches but is not a stitch dictionary.
