Beginners projects?

Recommended Posts

How about a washcloth (for using in the bath, more appeal than a dishcloth), or fingerless mitts (call them 'texting mitts', they might have more appeal that way ;) ?  There are a lot of mitt patterns made as rectangles and sewn up a distance from each end, leaving thumb holes.

Some mitt patterns, look for ones without the thumb gussets

Here is a knit pattern for a cute bunny, it works with any perfect square knitted, crochet or fabric

You could try a 'sampler' scarf to practice stitches, but sometimes beginners lose interest with bigger projects.

Check your public library (i am assuming you are in the US and have a local library) for books written for kids.  They tend to have extremely clear directions for one thing, but they have some really cute, quick patterns for fun items.  Kids! Picture Yourself Crocheting is a good one, with for example a simple friendship bracelet or a bookmark as projects http://www.amazon.com/Picture-Yourself-Crocheting-maranGraphics-Development/dp/1598635557/ref=tmm_pap_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1427571866&sr=1-1
