Question

I'm crocheting a cardigan and I dont quite understand a part of the pattern. I crocheted the back, and the next part says, "work as for back - 9 (11, 13) ch-1 sp". I understand that the parentheses are for different sizes, but the rest confuses me. I can post more pattern of needed. Any one help?

I agree with Magiccrochetfan, a front or sleeve would (usually) be the same stitch pattern as the back, but they would (usually) be fewer stitches across.

So I assume the designer took a short cut to avoid re-describing the stitch pattern, intending you to follow the same stitch pattern as the back but probably over a different number of stitches, resulting in the count of chain spaces in your post.
