What are they telling me to do?

 

[dc, (ch 2, dc) 4 times]

 

I get confused with the parenthesis and brackets.

 

If they're saying:  (dc, ch 2, dc) 4 times   What's with the brackets and parenthesis?

You are to dc then( ch2 dc) 4times  you are only going to ch2 dc 4 times in the same stitch.  this way you start out with a dc and end with a dc. 

 

It does get confusing when you have the brackets and the parenthesis.

before you go making all that into one stitch, make sure it says to do it in one stitch
