one motive in different sizes and colors

I spent a few days with a friend of mine and she let me have a look at her old fashion books (Burda etc). In one of her magazines I found this motiv, which I wanted to copy. I starched and pinned the motivs, but I think I prefer the motifs without starching and pinning. All the holes seems to be to big to my liking.

Since you do not care for the size of the openings, I am wondering of you could add some kind of small flower motif to the open areas.

Thank you for this hint. I might be filling the big holes with some chain stitches or whatever little motives I can create.
