"Light Fingering" yarn?

csf97

Question

I purchased this pattern http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/baby-bootie---ladybug-ankle-strap to try to make these adorable booties for my first granddaughter who will be here in September.

I've only been crocheting a few months and have managed to make a baby afghan and matching bib.  I used Hobby Lobby's "I Love This Yarn" in cranberry to make them both.

Well, this pattern calls for 2 strands held together of "light fingering" cotton yarn (100% cotton, 30 tex x 3 x 4, cca 142 m in 50g).

I tried to make the newborn size using the "I Love This Yarn" and a much smaller hook than the pattern calls for and they were still way too big.

I'd appreciate any suggestions for a brand of cotton yarn (100% cotton, 30 tex x 3 x 4, cca 142 m in 50g) that has a wide enough variety of colors that I might be able to match the cranberry color of "I Love This Yarn", which is a crimson red.

If I can't find a matching cotton yarn, does anyone have any suggestions for "transposing" a pattern from cotton yarn to worsted weight so that the newborn size booties won't fit a 3 year old?  :)

Thanks!

Charlain

Two strands of fingering is approx sport weight http://www.lionbrand.com/faq/16.html?language=

Here are

A few sport weight yarns http://www.anniescatalog.com/yarn_and_thread/list.html?cat_id=456

The Nazli Gelen has a very deep red.

Speaking of sz 5 thread, maybe two strands of sz 10 thread would work. Lt fingering is very fine.

If you have any 5 or 10 thread around, you could try it and see if you get gauge.
