What is this stitch technique called?

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the ville :hook

What is the item?  Are you certain it's crocheted?  to be honest, crochet stitches aren't jumping out at me in the photo.  It looks more like knit in a way.

the most common crochet mesh would be similar to this http://lotsofcrochetstitches.blogspot.com/2012/03/simple-netting.html

I knit, but haven't made that sort of netted pattern in knit (I think something like that would be so much easier/faster in crochet), but it does look knitterly to me too.

edit - check out this link of knitted mesh stitches.  It looks similar to 'net to the right'

However, here's a pattern for something similar in crochet.  If you want it really loose like the original, just use an overlarge hook.

i was looking around on Vashti Braha's site and saw this Tunisian "wicker" stitch http://designingvashti.blogspot.com/2009/05/fun-with-tunisian-crochet-aka-afghan.html  also used in this pattern http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/liebling-shrug

I don't think it is the same as what is in post 3 photo, but the closest thing I've seen that involves a crochet technique.
